The Beatles were as close to being back together as they would ever be in 1973. In May, Paul released Red Rose Speedway. Mom bought it for me on our way home from the dentist.
As the orange paint was drying, I received George Harrison’s new album called , Living In The Material World. This was and still continues to be a great chill album and one of my top favorite solo Beatles Records.
I remember my parents having people over for dinner on a Friday night and my mom letting me ask my girlfriend Tammy over. We had a table in my bedroom made up complete with red and white checkered table cloth. George’s album played in the background along with side two of Yellow Submarine.
September saw high school begin and catching a bus for the first time. I was elated to hear John Lennons new single played on WIRL early one school morning. It was called Mind Games. I was lucky to have my cassette recorder handy to tape most of it. I bought that record as soon as it came out. It played daily.
To complete the recent Beatles bonanza reunion rumors, Ringo Starr released his self-titled album in November 1973. I’ll never forget that Sunday afternoon my mom dropped myself and two friends downtown to hang out and watch a movie. I think I bought the Ringo album at Carsons and the movie was American Graffiti. I couldn’t wait to get home and listen. But as luck would have it, I would need to wait several more hours since we had to visit my grandmother and have dinner.
It was a great time to be alive.
These four records were in constant rotation in the orange room.
