Writer's picture: pbirdchatpbirdchat

In continuation of Monroe Grade School Year Book Part One: 1969.

While I recuperated from neck fusion surgery in Dec of 2018, I went through several boxes of items I've saved over the years and came across three of my grade school year books. These are the autographs from 71' and 72'.

1971

*To my lovable boyfriend! - Teresa Kelley

Teresa and I went "steady" that year. Going steady was really only a title in those days. We were too young to do anything together. I think we met at a horse ranch on Maxwell road once not far from where she lived.

*Cindy Traub - Cindy Traub

Cindy was a real nice girl and unfortunately, one of the first from our class that passed away early in life. Her younger sister is a facebook friend of mine and their father is an acquaintance of mine from the old Sky Harbor.

*To a dude and a half Kim H. - Kim Hurley

Kim was a class mate of ours and we really didn't hang out much. She was friends with a girl that I'd go steady with in late 72 and 73'.

*Good luck in the 7th Miss McDaniels - Miss McDaniels

I don't think I had Miss McDaniels for anything at Monroe. Nice of her to sign my book.

*Darren, Best of luck always to a real doll in every way. Hope to see your name in lights some day. Good luck in sports this summer and fall. Mrs. H - Mrs Hawkins?

I'm pretty sure this would be Mrs Hawkins. I had her for English. I was probably surprised by this friendly message. She was the teacher that made us read out loud from books and I read a paragraph from a John Lennon book and managed to read at least three "fucks" before I was shut down. I was starting to play guitar but was still more into sports.

*To a cool kid Jeff - Jeff Furniss

I'm pretty sure this was Jeff Furniss who lived a couple house down the street from me. Jeff was a very close friend of mine. He passed away several years go.

*To a good imitator Gina Chiarvalle - Gina Chiarvalle

Gina was a good friend of Cathy Davies and popular girl. in 1970, I entered the school variety show doing impersonations of famous people. It's something I picked up and did for a period of time. LBJ, Richard Nixon, Dean Martin, Jack Benny and more. All the people we'd see on TV on at the time. My Mom would help write the dialogue .

I see theres some glow in the dark crayon that I was practicing with from a few years later. Tammy + Darren. Probably 1974

1972

This was the year of puberty ,house parties, guitars and girls. Things were changing. Definatley one of the best years of my young life at the time!

*Dan Light to a great guitar player! - Danny Light

Danny has been a lifelong friend and we were beginning to play guitars together that year.

*To a great Cardinal fan!! Bobby W - Bobby Wilhelm

Never close friends but a nice guy.

*To a kid I'll never forget and we'll always talk about the Beatles and music Tim Segal - Tim Segal

Tim was always one of the true "cool kids". He was the first to grow his hair over his ears and experiment with pot. He was also a straight A student. He loved to hang out on recess and talk about rock bands and music. We shared a love of the Beatles and he did play a bit of drums. We were school friends but never hung out on own much. He did spend the night at my house one night and I visited his on occasion. Passed away way too early.

*To a swinging Cat Greg - Greg Carle?

I can't be sure but I'm guessing Greg Carle who lived across from Monroe.

*Simon The Greedy - Maybe David Berry

*To a Cardinal fan who is a blast to be with Kyle - Kyle Young

Kyle was one of our close buddies from Mardell Manor. We were close friends.

*To a neat kid. Hope to see you over the Summer. Jeff Otten - Jeff Otten

Jeff was a very close friend of mine. We hung out a lot and spent several nights together playing guitar and listening to records.

*John Gunnar - John Gunnar

Classmate

*To a real cute and friendly friend Nila Patel the ugly - Nila Patel

Nila was alway so friendly and the first person I ever met with Indian heritage.

*To a real neat kid and funny too! Tina Cook - Tina Cook

Tina was very quite and a late bloomer. She ended up be one attractive lady!!!

I was friends with her bother who was a year younger than us.

*To a cool kid Gina p.s. and cute - Gina Chiarvalle

Gina was a girl who really blossomed as well and so nice.

*Darin Bloomfield - Darin Bloomfield

My next door neighbor and best friend at the time. I haven't seen him in years. Wishing him the best.

*Doug - ?

*To a real pal, who like many of my friends would be perfect if he'd just turn to the Cubs Lance - Lance Dieckow

I've know Lance since first grade and still see him once and a while.

*To a Cardinal fan from a great Cub fzn Jeff - Jeff Furniss

Both Jeff and his brother were big Cub Fans

*To a real gorky kid. Have fun + luck with the girls luv, Diane - Dian Bocamper

Diane lived two doors down and her and her bothers were the first kids I met when we moved to Mardell Manor. That Summer of 72' wasa fun time since Diane was kind of seeing my friend Darin and I was seeing her friend Laura. We took a few long walks in the woods and made out. I finally got off first base!!!

*Tim Deminen ?

I think Tim and I played Baseball.

*Darren - the ham in room seven. You really made the class come "alive". Good luck in future years. See you in the fall. S Crowell - Mrs. Sue Crowell

A favorite teacher of many of us. A lot of the boys thought she was quite attractive.

*To Darren, one of the nicest friends I've got Tim Cook - Tim Cook

Tim lived on the street behind us. I'm thinking he was a year older than me but we hung out a lot that year.He played drums in the band at school and I remember he and I staying over night at his house a few times watching Acre Creature Feature. HIs older brother had a groovy red room that beccame my inspiration for my Orange room the following year.

*Keith Tucker - Keith Tucker

Keith and I were never real close. Unfortunatley, he passed away a couple years ago.

*To a great XXXX Guy ! (Don't take this seriously) Bip - Laura Landwehr

Laura was freinds with Diane Bocamper and we spent a lot of time that Summer.

I'm pretty sure the original message said great KISSER, but she blocked it out. We did have an attraction to each other for a while. I liked her.

*to a real cute and neat guy. Stay that way and good luck in the future with the girls Cathy - Cathy Davis

Cathy was every guys favorite girl. She had an infectious smile and was mature for her age. Cathy hosted some of the first Jr High Parties. I alway liked Cathy and we reconnected again after she began tending bar at the Sky Harbor. She passed away too early.

*Dear Darren, You're adorable + a great guitarist. Good Luck. Miss Kahn - Miss Kahn

Miss Kahn was a newer teacher that filled the new kindergarden class. She was very attractive and all the guys really liked her!!! I'm sure I loved the adorable bit!!!

*Good luck next year to areal cute guy. a real ham + and good musicaian! Even though I yell alot, I've really having you in class. Be good + never change!! Mrs K - Mrs. Kukuck (sp?)

We called her Mrs K and she was our seventh grade home room teacher. She did yell alot but we pushed her sometimes too. I think its cool that several of my teachers thought I was cute. They were all pretty young themselves. Probably mid 20's.

*To Darren a real cool kid from a cooler one. Crystal The Great - Crystal Gablehousen

Chris lived down the road and was a very witty girl and big music fan in her own write. She would bring 45's to class. Very smart as well. I see her at class reunions. I liked her.
