One week in January 1980, we packed the band truck up and headed for our week engagement in Minnesota!!!!

It was a long cold week but somehow we got through the ice and snow , found our hotel and played five nights in a club all with out internet or GPS.

One week later, we returned to our band house late on a dark snowy Sunday night. We unpacked our truck and said our good byes. We still had no money as the check would not be cashed until later in the week by our Guitar player. I searched for something to eat and managed to scrounge up a can of Del Monte Peas!!!!!!

I opened the can and poured the peas into a pan and turned on the stove to a low flame.

It was then that we heard a knock on the door. It was our sax man, and he needed help getting out of a snow bank that he had gotten his car into.

I helped push his car out of the devil ditch and then was all the more ready to pour my peas on a plate, perhaps there was some bread I could pour them over!!!!! Those peas were sounding like STEAK!!!!!

After locking the front door , it was dinner time. However, instead of finding a pan of plump , ripe and juicy peas... ready to be ingested, all I found was 40 or 50 black pellets burnt and stuck to the bottom of the pan.

The water had evaporated and the flame still danced below.

This is the Orange Room 2.0. after I moved out of my parents house, I painted my new bedroom the same color. I guess I wasn’ t ready for much change yet.

I shut off the stove..... threw the pan in the garbage and began to cry. It was then I realized , I was poor. Tomorrow would be another day.

😞🦃⛄️💕💀
