As I get older, the more I notice and disapprove of the victim mentality that seems to permeate our society. It's one of the oldest tricks used by so called 'progressives' that causes division among Americans. If anyone disagrees with any far left policy, that person is called racist, or some other derogatory label. The tactic silences people and they become afraid to speak or voice their opposing opinions.... but that's the plan! I refuse to believe in 2024, that the USA is an evil racist nation and white supremacy is our biggest threat to society. Bullshit!
By the mid 1970's when I was growing up, I never had a racist bone in my body! My Father, who experienced some racism in his family, would occasionally blurt out a racist slur from time to time, but in his heart, I don't feel he ever looked down on ANY other human being unless they were an ASSHOLE!!! For me, my favorite sports hero's were Muhammad Ali, Gene Washington and Carl Eller of the Minnesota Vikings. I even had their posters up in my room. I was a big fan of Willie May, Bob Gibson and later in my teens, loved all the original rock n rollers of the 50's including Little Richard, Chuck Berry and many more. We watched Ray Charles on Flip Wilson's weekly variety show and racism just didn't surface in our household.
Since our neighborhood was mostly white, I was thrilled to finally meet and strike up a friendship with guy at high school who was black. He loved hard rock music like me and even played a bit of guitar. We'd hang out on occasion and party or play guitars. I remember witnessing some racist and frankly STUPID behavior at one of my parents parties when I brought my friend along with me. A guy my dad worked with made some remark like "who bought Leroy" and I was shocked and PISSED that a guy would say such thing in 1977!!!! I apologized to my friend and told my parents how embarrassed I was!!!! I guess it opened my eyes to how dumb some people can be.
A few weeks after that party, I was over at my friends house playing guitars in his basement. I had my large Marshall cabinet and we were blaring loud rock music!!!! After about an hour, my friend disappeared upstairs for a few minutes, then came running down the stairs with a worried look on his face. "What's the matter," I asked. " You need to pack your shit and get out of here fast"! He said. "Hurry...I'm not kidding." "Why?" "What's going on?" Then he said seriously, " my mom's home from work and she don't like white people!" OMG!!! I was shocked!! I didn't understand, but began to pack my large amplifier and guitar as fast as I could. After a minute, my friend burst into LOUD LAUGHTER!!!! He said, "I was only kidding....how does it feel?" "You dick," I yelled!!!! We both began to laugh!!!!!
I truly believe that by the time of my generation, the late 70's, racism and what came with it, was a thing of the past. So it's very odd that in 2024, political and leftist organizations still try and stir up hatred in our county. Racism has become a big business to many and an evil tool of division. I didn't buy into it in the 70's and I certainly don't buy into it today!
